I don’t know about you, but I have struggled with my thick, naturally curly hair! As a kid, no one knew what to do with it! Today, we are so blessed that curly hair is finally embraced and we actually have so many products to choose from! Here are some reviews of the ones I've tried.

I don’t know about you, but I have struggled with my thick, naturally curly hair! As a kid, no one knew what to do with it! Most hairdressers would put a little gel in it, blow it dry, and then BRUSH IT DRY!!! With a frizzy mess that was about 6 inches deep on each side, they would pat it and say “All done”! I would run home and wash it real quick and put some mousse in. It would dry crunchy but at least it wasn’t a frizzy mess!

I can remember when I was in military training back in the 90’s and my instructor, who was a black woman, looked at me and said “Girl! You better do something about that hair! It way exceeds 3 inches”. Turns out, our hair was not allowed to exceed 3 inches in depth! It was a never-ending battle that I couldn’t seem to win!

Today, we are so blessed that curly hair is finally embraced and we actually have so many products to choose from! My hair is super thick and curly so what works for some people just doesn’t seem to work for me! I see these videos of women with “curly” hair and I’m thinking “your hair is nothing like mine”! If you, like me, have thick curly hair that always seems to be a frizzy mess, I’m here for you! I have tried a variety of products and here are my recommendations.

To begin with, I tried CURLSMITH and loved it! It is a bit more expensive than your average drug store brands but totally worth it. My hair was manageable, less frizzy, and not sticky! Even days later, my curls were still bouncing. They use clean ingredients and have products for all curl types. I definitely recommend! I started with the CURLSMITH Transition Kit. Another great product I tried was Marc Anthony’s Strictly Curls Curl Envy Cream. It is a great drug store find! The ingredients are not completely “clean” but is free of Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, and SLS. The cream is great on wet hair and works great to revitalize curls when dry.

If you have a dry scalp, the Briogeo Charcoal + Tea Tree Cooling Hydration Scalp Mask is an amazing dry scalp treatment and moisturizer. I highly recommend it. I am going to be trying out their curl products soon so stay tuned!

I just ordered the Prose shampoo, conditioner, and curl cream so I will let you know how that goes!

Here are some brands that just didn’t cut it. They just weren’t enough to tame this mane!!

TGIN Curl Bomb and Honey Whip – This combo left my hair frizzy and dry.

DEVA Curl Supreme Defining Gel – This was a little better than others but still was not supreme.

OLAPLEX No. 6 – I honestly really liked the OLAPLEX system! It seemed to really help my hair be less dry and the curls weren’t terrible but they did lack some definition and were a bit frizzy.
